Youthful Exuberance, Maturity and Eternity

I love the book of Ecclesiastes. It’s definitely one of my favorite books to read in the Bible. I was thinking about this year, my age(I’m in my late teens at the moment) and just life in general. Apparently some argue that the 12 disciples of Jesus were in their teens when they decided to follow Jesus! I’m not sure how true that is, but what i do definitely believe is that they were below 30.

On Maturity…

In society today, people are either classified as babies, children, teens or adults. However i think the expectation of maturity greatly differs in various parts of the world. Someone else suggested that Mary the mother of Jesus was in her late teens(16-20) when she was pregnant to give birth to Jesus and betrothed to be married to Joseph. This also is a huge shock to me! Coming from Nigeria, in my opinion and from my perspective, there’s a lower expectation for teenagers to be mature in that context(Seems that way to me!). Studying in the UK, my observation from amongst my friendship circles has been varied. Whilst some still doubt they believe in the institution of marriage, some are engaged to be married by 20/21. The latter has also been a huge culture shock to me as well! However, i greatly admire the fact that many start to work on paid jobs from their teenage years in the UK. I believe this helps to increase their self-confidence as well as expose young adults to the value of responsibility.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 would advice,

Remember your Creator
    in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
    and the years approach when you will say,
    “I find no pleasure in them”

I remember we had this verse stuck somewhere on the wall, when i went to my Christian boarding school in Nigeria. Although i never really paid attention to it, these words are plaguing my mind once again today.

On Eternity…

It is a lie to believe that you won’t ever die. It’s not reality. It might be optimistic, but it’s not reality.  I want more than optimism, i want reality.  So why waste your time on what does not satisfy? It’s meaningless. Why waste your time clinging to the spirit of the age? It’s all fleeting, passing away quickly.

On Youthful Exuberance…

The young shall grow.  Youth is wasted on the young, says an online blog i read today. I don’t believe you have to be foolish because you’re young. I believe we need to call more young people to maturity rather than pampering them. Sadly, as a young teenager, i’ve been to so many christian youth groups that feed one another with video games and meaningless conversations. Don’t get me wrong- I believe there is a room for light talk and a bit of banter. However, i find that the older people get to be taught the ‘meaty’ stuff. There’s nothing as beautiful as seeing devoted and dedicated young people who have wisdom at a young age. I love reading about the lifestyle of John the Baptist- this man that was described by Jesus as a burning and a shining lamp, and the greatest man born of woman. This man lived a radical lifestyle of prayer, fasting and meditation on the Word, and was martyred at 30. That may look so foolish on this side of time but then Jesus would answer and defend this man’s life and say, ‘Wisdom will be justified by her children’.  In other ways, “I will vindicate this man’s lifestyle on that day. He will be great for billions and billions of years in the eternal city. You have said he is demonised, but i will openly declare the wisdom in this man’s choices. And though it seems like a short time to live in this present age, this man’s eyes are fixed on something more, something lasting of greater splendor, beauty, magnificence and glory”.

Stepping into 2013

Wow i can’t believe 2012 is over! Went quickly! I’ve also had this blog for over a year surprisingly :O. I just looked at my blog post last year on New Year’s Resolutions and i’m surprised with how my writing style has changed just in one year! Again, This has been the best year of my life so far! 😀

Its funny cause i remember saying the same thing at the end of 2011. And i remember saying the same thing at the end of 2010!

Seems like life keeps getting better and better by the year! :D. Why’s this?

Well, life always gets better with Jesus! I wouldn’t say i’ve had any major miracles this year. And i wouldn’t say i haven’t had many disappointments either. But really with Jesus you’re not affected by your circumstances at all. Your emotions don’t go up, down, left, right and centre. Its always JOY!

JOY UNSPEAKABLE AND FULL OF GLORY! The more you know Him, the more you love Him, the more you love life, the better life becomes. It doesn’t matter what happens in life- your eyes are always fixed on Jesus! You can’t take your eyes off Him cause He is beautiful! What a glorious thought!Its just like Paul said in Philippians 4:11-13,

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

I’ve stepped into this place in my relationship with God that i never thought i’d be in. When i was 15 i never thought i’d one day be able to hear God’s voice all the time, 24/7. I never thought i’d stop being shy. I never thought i’d know what God’s plans for me are. Many many other glorious things have happened- too many i can’t list. Infact, at a point, i felt as if God was doing so much work in me that i started to get confused. I tried to keep record of everything but it was just impossible!

Can’t wait for next year! Maybe there’s an important lesson i’ve learnt so far. Took me 2010, 2011 and 2012 to learn this- but thank God i finally have 😀

Life always gets better with Jesus! So i know 2013 will be better! Don’t know exactly how i’ll dance to the heartbeat of the Father, but i’ll dance with Him through it all! Fix your eyes on Jesus as you step deeper into the river of God in 2013. 🙂

An Adventure with the King

I always want my posts on my blog as well as everything else in my life to be an overflow from my ‘secret place’ of intimacy with Jesus. He really is altogether lovely! If you feel as if your christian life is boring then there is a problem. Your christian life should be an adventure with the King. He is so precious; so loving and caring!

I went to church today and on my way back home with my family we visited some family friends. One of our family friends commented on how they felt our church service was too long and how they would never be able to manage if they were at a church like that. This comment was made in the context of church being ‘boring’. Considering the fact that i’ve felt the same way in the past, i know how this can be. Many times in the past i could hardly stand being in church for an hour. I just wanted to get out of that building and watch a movie or play some video games or something else. This is how it is for some christians. They think that Church is a place to go to out of obligation to obey the scripture that says, ‘Not forsaking the assembling of the brethren’.

I believe that until the love of Jesus conquers and breaks those walls of religion down, church or your entire christian walk will always seem boring to you.

Our daddy longs and yearns for intimacy. He wants to be our friend. He wants us to jump on his laps and talk to him. He wants to sing his heart to us and tell us how precious we are to him. I wish you knew the pleasures of being with daddy. He is so kind and gracious. So beautiful and such a brave Father we can always trust and lean on. In his radiant presence there is fullness of joy, and at his right hand there are pleasures forever. The very air of heaven is wrapped around the love of daddy. You cannot live a moment in eternity without being conscious of the love of Jesus. You cannot live a moment in eternity without being conscious of the pleasures at the right hand of daddy. The world brings temporal pleasures but oh you need to know that the pleasures at the right hand of daddy are eternal. They are forevermore. They will never cease or end.

We must always remember that the Bible says we are seated together with Christ in heavenly places. This is more than theology or theory. You need to know what this means experientially! What pleasures are present where you are seated NOW in the heavenly places with Christ! It is indescribable!

We must learn to come as little children to our dad. Above all the attributes of God, He is primarily a Father. Our wonderful great dad. We could never ask for a better dad! Jesus expressed this fatherly attribute of the Father in Matthew 19:14 when he said-…Leave the children alone! Allow the little ones to come to Me, and do not forbid or restrain or hinder them, for such [as these] is the kingdom of heaven composed’. Remember that the Bible says Jesus is the exact visible representation of the Father. I pray we can all learn to come to the King as little children. Many times that the Lord has shown me in a dream/vision that He was going to heal someone or anything else He has always represented the people as children. He truly is our dad, and we truly are his kids! His beloved kids in whom He is well pleased! 😀

Song of solomon 2:14

14 [So I went with him, and when we were climbing the rocky steps up the hillside, my beloved shepherd said to me] O my dove, [while you are here] in the seclusion of the clefts in the solid rock, in the sheltered and secret place of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.

 

My Recent Belief in Prophecy

A lot has been going on in the world today and it shouldn’t take long for us to realise that we are truly in the last days. This has led me to look into various changes i have observed in the body of Christ, as well as question some of my previous beliefs in certain doctrines and ideas. Being from Nigeria, i have listened to weekly news updates so far on the various attacks by the islamic sect, boko haram, that has led to the deaths of many innocent people in the country. Also, being a citizen of a nation with a major part of the various systems and institutions rooted in corruption; from the government to business organizations, and sometimes even churches, this has made me wonder what our fate is in the world today.

I don’t expect every christian to agree with me on this, but i do believe in the apostolic-prophetic reformation that is taking place in the church today. And i believe it is part of God’s plan to prepare the church for the perilous times that have been prophesied to take place in the Bible. We must remember that we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken. When everything else shakes in the earth and when it seems like all hope is gone for all, we must make sure our hope, faith and love is unshaken(See Hebrews 12:27-29). For a long time in the church the local assemblies of christians have been led by Pastors. Pastors have been made to function in all the offices of the 5-fold ministry described by Paul in Ephesians 4:11- He gave some to be Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church).

It goes on to say in verse 13 that he gave these to the body for her to grow into the full stature of Christ- without spot,wrinkle or blemish. I do not believe that the church is fully developed yet, hence i believe the apostolic and prophetic offices should still be in operation.

However, i recognise that many false prophets will also rise up in the last days that will mislead many and will do signs and wonders. We must realise that if there will be false prophets that indicates there must also be true prophets. Without apology i know of a man in Nigeria who is a false prophet. You may ask me how you know the difference between false and true. I believe the simple difference between a false prophet and a true prophet is the fact that false prophets do not have good hearts. I do not believe that the fact that someone gifted in prophecy gives a wrong prophecy makes them false. I think most people gifted in prophecy are susceptible to giving a wrong word due to many issues such as an incorrect interpretation of a revelation(such as in dreams or visions etc) but i believe as you get more intimate in your fellowship with the Holy Spirit you start to understand what God is saying more clearly.

In addition to what i said about having a bad heart, the entire chapter of 1 John 4 makes it clearer what that might mean. For example i could tell why the man in Nigeria was a false prophet because he had claimed to being a christian since he was in his mother’s womb. He has no history of ever being in the world according to him. This is already in opposition to the scripture that says unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. I believe any prophetic ministry that does not stem out of a genuine love for God and his people has a tendency to be false. It is easy to get into pride as well as self-promotion with such a gift and once this happens you must re-evaluate yourself to test the spirit from which you are operating. We must always remember that God has given us a Spirit of Love(2 Timothy 1:8). I believe anyone with the gift of prophecy is susceptible to becoming a false prophet and hence we must always check our motives. For example, i am reluctant to people who always love using the official title ‘prophet’ a lot. This is very common in Nigeria as you have churches every 5 kilometers on the streets with many presuming to be prophets. Firstly, i believe that you might be gifted prophetically and have dreams and visions, angelic visitations and even get words of knowledge yet not be called to be in the office of a prophet. Paul said in the Bible that he wished that all may prophesy. ‘Desire earnestly spiritual gifts especially that you may prophesy’- 1 Corinthians 14:1b. Hence, i believe it is the will of God for all his people to prophesy. However, i believe the office of a prophet described in Ephesians 4:11 is only for those called to equip the saints for work of service. I believe that leaders in churches must always be called to that office and should not presume to be called because of giftings they have noticed in their lives. Secondly, i’ve noticed that most true prophets hardly ever call themselves by the title, except they are called by that title by another. I believe this shows humility. I don’t think that all that may call themselves by that title are false. Like i said earlier, its all to do with the heart. God is a God of hearts.

I also believe that when we test the spirits and test prophetic words given we must also be very careful to not be ‘faultfinders’ instead of true lovers of God and his people. Very often you have people who habitually test from a foundation of suspicion. This should not be so. We must test from a heart of love for God and his people. And even when we realise that something might be fishy somewhere, we must take out time to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom in how exactly to react to what He has shown us. We must readily watch over our hearts because out of it flows the springs of life. You don’t want your springs to be polluted.

Finally,i believe that all prophecy must always reveal Jesus and lead us back into his arms. (I’m sure i must have left out a few points by the way).

“…For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”(Revelation 19:10).

A Revival of The Youth

Unfortunately, due to several reasons, including preparations for my upcoming exams i haven’t been able to post any articles recently.

However, i just stumbled on a website i found very interesting called Y! Naija and its a website that focuses on the voice of the youth in Nigeria. It addresses the national political issues of Nigeria and attempts to motivate young people who wish to see a change, to be informed on everything that goes on in the country. All the writers of the articles in this website are young people. You can check this website at http://ynaija.com/.

I saw many interesting comments and thoughts on this website i would love to make some comments on. Firstly, just like most members of the Nigerian youth community, my greatest desire is to see a change in Nigeria. It would be crucial to state from the start that i believe very strongly that the problems faced by Nigeria, have nothing to do with the wicked and corrupt government in Nigeria or the Nigerians that sit around always wishing something happens, but have their totality and roots founded upon the activities in the spiritual realm. Although those factors influence what’s happening, i believe we need to get to the root of the problem. Nigeria is not different from other countries in the world also facing various problems so there’s nothing surprising to me about Her present predicaments. The basis of my belief is from scripture that clearly says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities and powers, and rulers of the darkness OF THIS WORLD.

In case you didn’t know, Satan is described in the Bible as the prince of the power of the air. He controls majority of the people that are in power, and the systems of this world . However, we have read the end of the book so we know what his end is going to be like.

Why does the world always seem to think they have figured out everything when they have kicked God out of it? Why does it take so long to realise that once God is not in it, then nothing’s in it? These questions seem to puzzle me all the time.

I saw quite an amusing poll on Y! Naija. It was a poll on which nigerian is changing the image of nigeria for the best and the options were:

As soon as i saw this, it didn’t take me ages to vote for ‘None’. Surprisingly, some people voted for an afrobeats singer that has done nothing but sit down in a studio to write very nonsensical lyrics like, ‘Its your boy wizzy’. I’m not against his music, but i wouldn’t understand why anyone would consider him to be someone who has changed the image of Nigeria for the best. If anything, he has changed the image of nigeria for the worst in my opinion. There is not an element of logical thought used in the construction of the lyrics, neither does it encourage the nigerian youth to do something worthwhile with their lives. Little wonder every tom,dick and harry wants to get involved in music in Nigeria these days. Sigh.

After looking through many articles for sometime i finally saw one that i could agree with with its headline, ‘Abacha supported ‘Nigeria Prays’-Gowon’.

Finally, God was being brought into something. This article was about how a former Nigerian military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon gathered with some nigerians in diaspora to discuss the possible solution for Nigeria’s countless problems. After the meeting, they concluded that they would form an organisation called, ‘Nigeria Prays’, where intercessors would be gathered from all over the country to pray to God concerning its issues and seek His face. I think this is good and an essential starting point. I’m happy about this, and from time to time i always keep Nigeria in my prayers.

I’m very encouraged to see the nigerian youth are concerned about what is going on in that country. This is what we need. We need more active people and less passive people. We need people to start doing something and stop wishing something changed. I believe with all my heart that God wants to start a revival amongst the youth in Nigeria; this is just the start of it. I believe there is going to be a spiritual awakening that the forces of darkness will not be able to prevail against, because the Spirit of God will be working with and in the youth.

Personally, i am forever dedicated to working with God, to bringing a change in Nigeria. Whatever he asks me to do, i will do. And i don’t have to be scared about anything like an assasination because if God sends me He will keep me from the evil one until the job He wants to be done is done. I believe in the royal priesthood(Revelation 5:10) of all true christians, and i believe in the immesurable, unlimited, and surpassing greatness of the power of God in and for those who believe in Him(Ephesians 1:19). My prayer to God in these times is: Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger and disfavor and spread it out to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation.(Psalm 85:5-8)

I’ll conclude with one of my favorite Bible chapters where Jesus prays to the Father, just close to the time He was going to be taken to be crucified.

John 17:15-18-     15 I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.

     16 They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.

     17 Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.

     18 Just as You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

A Love letter to the Lover of my Soul

  4. I find it annoying when christians who are lukewarm call me a ‘pastor’ when i’m not. I believe that every christian should have an understanding of the Bible, and should have an intimate relationship with Christ. I’m just being a normal christian; I’m not a pastor! Lol 😛
  5. I love music! I sing and i love dancing too(except i can’t dance lol). I like writing lyrics to songs. Recently, i’ve written some christian worship songs lyrics(they don’t have a tune yet). God has asked me  to ask Him to put a new song in my mouth and to open my lips to declare His praise, and i’ve been asking Him. Hopefully, He’ll answer soon 😀
  6. I love funny people! I like being around people that make me laugh and i just can’t stand a heavy spirit. You know one of those yucky feelings inside you, when you feel you haven’t done something to the best of your ability? I hate those ones!!!
  7. I used to be scared of cats all my life when i was still in Nigeria. I could never live with them or stay in the same place they were. You don’t want to know why i was scared lol. But now, i live with 2 cats in London 😉
