Stepping into 2013

Wow i can’t believe 2012 is over! Went quickly! I’ve also had this blog for over a year surprisingly :O. I just looked at my blog post last year on New Year’s Resolutions and i’m surprised with how my writing style has changed just in one year! Again, This has been the best year of my life so far! ūüėÄ

Its funny cause i remember saying the same thing at the end of 2011. And i remember saying the same thing at the end of 2010!

Seems like life keeps getting better and better by the year! :D. Why’s this?

Well, life always gets better with Jesus! I wouldn’t say i’ve had any major miracles this year. And i wouldn’t say i haven’t had many disappointments either. But really with Jesus you’re not affected by your circumstances at all. Your emotions don’t go up, down, left, right and centre. Its always JOY!

JOY UNSPEAKABLE AND FULL OF GLORY! The more you know Him, the more you love Him, the more you love life, the better life becomes. It doesn’t matter what happens in life- your eyes are always fixed on Jesus! You can’t take your eyes off Him cause He is beautiful! What a glorious thought!Its just like Paul said in Philippians 4:11-13,

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

I’ve stepped into this place in my relationship with God that i never thought i’d be in. When i was 15 i never thought i’d one day be able to hear God’s voice all the time, 24/7. I never thought i’d stop being shy. I never thought i’d know what God’s plans for me are. Many many other glorious things have happened- too many i can’t list. Infact, at a point, i felt as if God was doing so much work in me that i started to get confused. I tried to keep record of everything but it was just impossible!

Can’t wait for next year! Maybe there’s an important lesson i’ve learnt so far. Took me 2010, 2011 and 2012 to learn this- but thank God i finally have ūüėÄ

Life always gets better with Jesus! So i know 2013 will be better! Don’t know exactly how i’ll dance to the heartbeat of the Father, but i’ll dance with Him through it all! Fix your eyes on Jesus as you step deeper into the river of God in 2013. ūüôā

My Recent Belief in Prophecy

A lot has been going on in the world today and it shouldn’t take long for us to realise that we are truly in the last days. This has led me to look into various changes i have observed in the body of Christ, as well as question some of my previous beliefs in certain doctrines and ideas. Being from Nigeria, i have listened to weekly news updates so far on the various attacks by the islamic sect, boko haram, that has led to the deaths of many innocent people in the country. Also, being a citizen of a¬†nation with a major part of the various systems and institutions rooted in corruption; from the government to business organizations, and sometimes even churches, this has made me wonder what our fate is in the world today.

I don’t expect every christian to agree with me on this, but i do believe in the apostolic-prophetic reformation that is taking place in the church today. And i believe it is part of God’s plan to prepare the church for the perilous times that have been prophesied to take place in the Bible. We must remember that we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken. When everything else shakes in the earth and when it seems like all hope is gone for all, we must make sure our hope, faith and love is unshaken(See Hebrews 12:27-29). For a long time in the church the local assemblies of christians have been led by Pastors. Pastors have been made to function in all the offices of the 5-fold ministry described by Paul in Ephesians 4:11- He gave some to be Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ‚Äôs body (the church).

It goes on to say in verse 13 that he gave these to the body for her to grow into the full stature of Christ- without spot,wrinkle or blemish. I do not believe that the church is fully developed yet, hence i believe the apostolic and prophetic offices should still be in operation.

However, i recognise that many false prophets will also rise up in the last days that will mislead many and will do signs and wonders. We must realise that if there will be false prophets that indicates there must also be true prophets. Without apology i know of a man in Nigeria who is a false prophet. You may ask me how you know the difference between false and true. I believe the simple difference between a false prophet and a true prophet is the fact that false prophets do not have good hearts. I do not believe that the fact that someone gifted in prophecy gives a wrong prophecy makes them false. I think most people gifted in prophecy are susceptible to giving a wrong word due to many issues such as an incorrect interpretation of a revelation(such as in dreams or visions etc) but i believe as you get more intimate in your fellowship with the Holy Spirit you start to understand what God is saying more clearly.

In addition to what i said about having a bad heart, the entire chapter of 1 John 4 makes it clearer what that might mean. For example i could tell why the man in Nigeria was a false prophet because he had claimed to being a christian since he was in his mother’s womb. He has no history of ever being in the world according to him. This is already in opposition to the scripture that says unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. I believe any prophetic ministry that does not stem out of a genuine love for God and his people has a tendency to be false. It is easy to get into pride as well as self-promotion with such a gift and once this happens you must re-evaluate yourself to test the spirit from which you are operating. We must always remember that¬†God has given us a Spirit of Love(2 Timothy 1:8). I believe anyone with the gift of prophecy is susceptible to becoming a false prophet and hence we must always check our motives. For example, i am reluctant to people who always love using the official title ‘prophet’ a lot.¬†This is very common in Nigeria as you have churches every 5 kilometers on the streets with many presuming to be prophets. Firstly, i believe that you might be gifted prophetically and have dreams and visions, angelic visitations and even get words of knowledge yet not be called to be in the office of a prophet. Paul said in the Bible that he wished that all may prophesy. ‘Desire earnestly spiritual gifts especially that you may prophesy’- 1 Corinthians 14:1b. Hence, i believe it is the will of God for all his people to prophesy. However, i believe the office of a prophet described in Ephesians 4:11 is only for those called to equip the saints for work of service. I believe that leaders in churches must always be called to that office and should not presume to be called because of giftings they have noticed in their lives. Secondly, i’ve noticed that most true prophets hardly ever call themselves by the title, except they are called by that title by another. I believe this shows humility. I don’t think that all that may call themselves by that title are false. Like i said earlier, its all to do with the heart. God is a God of hearts.

I also believe that when we test the spirits and test prophetic words given we must also be very careful to not be ‘faultfinders’ instead of true lovers of God and his people. Very often you have people who habitually test from a foundation of suspicion. This should not be so. We must test from a heart of love for God and his people. And even when we realise that something might be fishy somewhere, we must take out time to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom in how exactly to react to what He has shown us. We must¬†readily watch over our hearts because out of it flows the springs of life. You don’t want your springs to be polluted.

Finally,i believe that all prophecy must always reveal Jesus and lead us back into his arms. (I’m sure i must have left out a few points by the way).

“…For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”(Revelation 19:10).

Love, Faith and the Gifts of the Spirit 2

  In my last post, i wrote briefly on how Faith is worked out by love. Love is the height of spiritual maturity. I spoke on how Love is the battery for our faith torchlight. Furthermore, the gifts of the spirit are received by us from God by faith. So the gifts of the spirit are energized by faith, and faith energized by Love.

The gifts of the spirit cannot be kicked out of the Bible like it doesn’t matter or it doesn’t exist. However,¬†every gifts of the spirit should be rooted in Love. It becomes a problem when people use their gifts not entirely wisely, or when people don’t even recognise that they have a spiritual gift given to them specially by the Holy Spirit. I believe that the gifts of the spirit are given to believers for the building of the body of Christ. They are given to keep believers steadfast in the faith, and also to draw unbelievers into the faith.

Hebrews 2:4 explains how it keeps believers in the faith when it says:¬† ‘[Besides this evidence] it was also established and plainly endorsed by God, Who showed His approval of it by signs and wonders and various miraculous manifestations of [His] power and by imparting the gifts of the Holy Spirit [to the believers] according to His own will.’

Let’s take a¬†look at the life of Jesus when he was in the world. Out of the love of God for mankind, He sent Jesus into the world. Jesus demonstrated this love to people when He healed the sick, raised the dead, taught the scriptures, and went about doing good.

Once at a prayer meeting, i described Peter as ‘loud’ and compared him to John the beloved. Afterwards, i had a tough time with God as he convicted me of what i said. Peter had a function as much as John did. He had revelations from God and that was why he could tell Jesus, ‘You are the Christ! The Son of the Living God!’. Maybe Peter was not as ready to receive the love of Christ as John was, but he sure did have a role to play. He was full of passion and enthusiasm. Jesus even told him, ‘You are a rock, and on this rock i will build my church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it’. Jesus also said Satan had asked specifically for Peter to be sifted into his hands. Satan must have seen something special in Peter.

I wondered why God convicted me of what i said and it occurred to me that Peter was the one that gave the sermon at Pentecost. Peter was the first disciple to perform the first healing after Christ ascended. Interestingly, Peter was with John when this happened. I believe that John had to be there because he was the one with the revelation from Christ on love. The healing had to be driven out of love. I don’t know if this happens to you, but recently when i see sick people around me, i feel really moved with compassion, and then i pray in my heart for God to heal them. It just comes naturally for me to do that because i know God loves them.

Like i pointed out above, the reason why Christ healed people and performed miracles was because he loved them. It was his way of expressing His love for them. We should aim to be like Christ. He was love and out of that love He did supernatural works in the lives of people.

Love had to come down in the person of Jesus before the spirit of God was poured out from heaven. Its sad how love is separated from the gifts of the spirit nowadays because the reason why God gives us these gifts is to use them to show love to others. Even Paul warns the church at corinth that every gift of the spirit is nothing without love: ‘But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all–love].

We should earnestly Love because outside of Love, there is no proper gift of the spirit. The gifts of the spirit are nothing without love. Love and gifts of the spirit should be united together. I would even go as far as saying that, every ‘gift of the spirit’ manifested anywhere, without the love of God at its root is not of the Spirit of God but of the spirit of the antichrist. 1 John 4:3 says the spirit of the antichrist is already in the world. 2 Thessalonians 2:9 also says that the coming of the antichrist is through the activity and working of Satan and will be attended by great power and with all sorts of pretended miracles and signs, lying wonders and delusive marvels. In case, you didn’t know, demons teach doctrines. 1 Timothy 4:1 talks about how in the latter times some christians will turn away from the faith, giving attention to seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach.

So we have to very alert and very careful about the places we go to just because signs and wonders are manifested there. It could be the Spirit of God but could also be the spirit of a demon manifesting. However, i believe the best way to discern if its the Spirit of God is if the motive behind it is the love of God. God is love, and where love abides God abides.

Linking Revelation 3:19 to Proverbs 1:23, when we walk in love, God pours out his spirit on us. Revelation 3:19 says the people that God dearly and tenderly loves, he tells them their faults and convicts, convinces, reproves,chastens,disciplines and instructs them. It¬†admonishes us to have an enthusiastic attitude and to burn with zeal when God tells us our faults(rather than feel condemned); and afterwards repent. Proverbs 1:23 then says: ‘If you will turn(repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I (Wisdom) will pour out my spirit upon you, i will make my words known to you’. Christ is referred to in the Bible as the Wisdom of God, so when we heed to his reproof and instructions, He pours out his spirit on us.

I’ll end by encouraging you to put on love. Putting on love is spiritual warfare. The love of God is powerful. I believe when the love of God comes, everything comes after. If you have been asking God to show you what gifts He has given you, start loving first of all, then see what happens.¬†Love¬†should be the foundation of all¬†the gifts of the spirit.

Force Out The Darkness

Once again, i read¬†Luke 4 talking about how the Devil tempted Jesus. Jesus’s second temptation spoke to me in a different way as i read it today.

Luke 4:5-8 says: 5Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time [in the twinkling of an eye].

     6And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.

     7Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me [just once], it shall all be Yours.

     8And Jesus replied to him, Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.

After i read it i started to think about how Satan offered to give Jesus the ‘world’. I think if we don’t study this properly then we can get confused thinking that Satan owns the world now, and he doesn’t. God owns the earth he created it.The¬†Bible says¬†the¬†Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.¬†So what is Satan referring to when he talks about giving Jesus the kingdoms of the world and giving Jesus all the power, authority, and glory of the world?

Satan then goes on to say that of the glory and power and authority has been turned over to him.

To understand this i’ll show you some verses that describe Satan as the ‘god of the world’.

2 Corinthians 4:4 says : 4For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.

John 14:30 also says: 30I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]

So the Bible describes the devil as the god of this world and the prince(evil genius and ruler) of this world.

Ephesians 2:2 describes how majority of the people in the world have been blinded by the devil and¬†are following the prince of the power of the air. Christians of course are followers of Christ not of the Devil. So when the Bible talks about Satan being the prince of this world or owning the kingdoms of the world it means he has a major influence on the people who are in power, and people all over the world. Look at everything in the world: Poverty,war, corruption,¬†lust, greed, injustice etc. It doesn’t take you so long to realise that the world is encompassed in darkness brought by the power of the devil.¬†Look at the media, education systems, political systems, commercial systems and everything.

Now, on the contrary what are Christians? Christians are meant to be the light of the world and salt of the earth. However many christians have refused to turn their switches on. And instead of infecting and piercing the darkness in the world with our light, we have become so passive that we sit around and watch everything go horribly wrong. Christians are carriers of the presence of God.

Revelation 5:10 says: 10And You have made them a kingdom (royal race) and priests to our God, and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth!

How many christians can honestly say they are making a difference and shining their lights in their workplaces and businesses? The Bible says God has made us a royal race and priests to Him. And we are meant to reign as kings over the earth!

So why sit around looking for someone else to do something for you?

I find it quite strange that some christians in Nigeria¬†say christians should not be involved in politics because politics in Nigeria is full of corruption. That’s even the main reason why christians should be involved. Who is going to change anything if all the christians just keep everything in the church and watch the Devil take over all the systems in the world and cover it with darkness? Christianity is definitely not about going to church every sunday to listen to your pastor then go out in the world the rest of the week and not make an effort on purpose to bring light into the world.

If you want a change in your country or the corrupt systems in the world, then move outside the church and start piercing the darkness. Force out the darkness! Force out the darkness in the media! Force out the darkness in your country’s government! Force out the darkness in your school! Force out the darkness in your occupation! Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

What happened between Good Friday and Easter Sunday?

Out of curiosity i have had to look into what Jesus did just after he died¬† on the cross. What happened between the time interval from when he died and when he was resurrected? Many christians would say ‘He took the keys of the gates of Hades from the Devil then he ressurected’. Do people really know the source of this common doctrine? Is it really written anywhere in the Bible that Jesus took the keys to the gates of Hades from the Devil? Well, it was because of all these questions i looked at the clues the Bible givs about Jesus going to Hades after he died.

Firstly, what is Hades(In the greek) or Sheol(in Hebrew). Hades or Sheol has been described in the Bible as the place of the dead or the pit.

Ezekiel 31:16 says: 16I will make the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I cast it down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit, and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all [the trees] that drink water, will be comforted in the netherworld [at Assyria’s downfall].

Ezekiel 26:20 also says: 20Then I will thrust you down with those who descend into the pit (the place of the dead) to the people of olden times, and I will make you [Tyre] to dwell in the lower world like the places that were desolate of old, with those who go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited or shed forth your glory and renown in the land of the living.

So not only do we know from the first verse that Hades or Sheol is the place of the dead or the pit, we also know from Ezekiel 26:20 that this place of the dead is in the ‘lower world’.

Let’s remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man that Jesus himself told in the Bible. Both men died and after they died Lazarus was carried by the angels to ‘Abraham’s bosom’. Luke 16:23 says: 23And in Hades (the realm of the dead), being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.

We already¬†know that Hades,¬†is the realm/place of the dead, and is in the ‘lower world’. This verse finally adds to our knowledge of Hades. Hades includes two parts. The good part is¬†referred to as ‘Abraham’s bosom’ by Jesus and the bad part is¬†where the flame is according to Luke 16:24. The two parts also appear to be very far away from each other in Hades. But still, someone in Abraham’s bosom would still be able to see someone in the ‘bad part’ with the flame and speak to them(Luke 16:24).

Again, Jesus himself gave a clue to where he was before he resurrected. In Matthew 12:40 he says: 40For even as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

So Jesus said he was going to be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. Remember the Bible refers to Hades as being in the ‘lower world’.

Jesus also said to the thief on the cross just before he died in Luke 23:43: 43And He answered him, Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.

For Jesus to have said to the thief he was going to be in Paradise with him, it had to be that paradise was in the heart of the earth, because he had already said he would be in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights.¬†Jesus didn’t go to heaven after he died. He went to Paradise which was in the heart of the earth. He ascended to Heaven after he resurrected. Could Paradise be the same as ‘Abraham’s bosom’ which is in Hades(in the lower world)?

Another clue is from 1 Peter 3:18-20:

For Christ [the Messiah Himself] died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body He was put to death, but He was made alive in the spirit,

     19In which He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

¬†¬†¬†¬† 20[The souls of those] who long before in the days of Noah had been disobedient, when God’s patience waited during the building of the ark in which a few [people], actually eight in number, were saved through water.

These verses say after Christ died, he went and preached to the spirits in prison and the souls of those who long before in the days of Noah were disobedient. Now, i don’t believe ‘preach’ in this verse means he was trying to persuade them to accept Him because the people from Noah’s flood time had already been condemned to destruction. They were in prison and this ‘prison’ had to be the Flame in Hades where the rich man in Luke 23:43 went to after he died. I believe when the Bible says ‘preached’ it meant Christ’s declaration of his victory to the spirits in Hades.

Ephesians 4:8-10(AMP) also says: Therefore it is said, When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive [He led a train of vanquished foes] and He bestowed gifts on men.

     9[But He ascended?] Now what can this, He ascended, mean but that He had previously descended from [the heights of] heaven into [the depths], the lower parts of the earth?

     10He Who descended is the [very] same as He Who also has ascended high above all the heavens, that He [His presence] might fill all things (the whole universe, from the lowest to the highest).

These verses can be very hard to understand hence the various interpretations from many christians. The way i understand it, considering all the other verses i’ve seen above is, Christ descended into the lower parts of the earth(Hades) and led captivity captive when He went there. Leading captivity captive to me means He defeated things that held man in captivity like sin, the devil and death. Yes, by the way, Satan once had the power of sin and death.

Hebrews 2:14-15 says: 14Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought and make of no effect him who had the power of death–that is, the devil

     15And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.

So the devil once has the power of death. But through His death, Christ brought to nought and made to no effect the devil. Now, we don’t have to live in fear of death throughout our lives. For Satan to have had the power of death he most likely had the keys of Hades and Death. Jesus declares in Revelation 1:17b-18- I Am the First and the Last 18And the Ever-living One [I am living in the eternity of the eternities]. I died, but see, I am alive forevermore; and I possess the keys of death and Hades (the realm of the dead).

Jesus had to die, to possess the keys of death and Hades. And maybe that is why he says in that verse ‘I died, but see i am alive forevermore and i possess the keys of death and Hades’.

The last issue i would like to discuss is what happened to the old testament prophets. They went to Paradise/Abraham’s Bosom after they died. Jesus confirms this when he says in John 3:13- And yet no one has ever gone up to heaven, but there is One Who has come down from heaven–the Son of Man [Himself], Who is (dwells, has His home) in heaven.

So no man had ever gone to heaven. You might be thinking ‘Oh elijah went to heaven didn’t he?’, but anyway that’s another discussion for another post. Elijah didn’t go up to heaven but was only transported by the chariots of fire to somewhere else on earth. Elijah died like the others. So did Enoch.¬†No man was¬†Holy enough to enter into the very presence of God but Jesus changed that when he bore all the sins of the world on the cross. Jesus was the firstborn¬†of the dead(Revelation 1:5). So what happened with the old testament prophets?

Hebrews 2:16 says: 16For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand].

I think the verse above is a clue to what happened. I also believe that when the Bible talks about descendants of Abraham it means the¬†bloodline running¬†¬†from Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses etc up till Jesus. Ishmael wasn’t a part of the promise. All believers come under the ‘descendants of Abraham’ because we are in Christ, and Christ comes through the bloodline of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

That was a really long post but this is almost the shortest i can make it. Christ didn’t just ‘sleep’ when he died. He was doing something for you and I. He died, that you and I may live ūüėÄ Tomorrow is not about tears, but about victory! Victory from sin, death and the devil! God Bless you all! ūüėÄ

We Are…By Kari Jobe- Let There Be Light

I was just listening to a song by Kari Jobe and once again it struck me how it is imperative that every christian recognizes the importance of shining our light in the world. Many people may ask, “why is there so much injustice and crime in the world” or “if God is good why does he let so much¬†crap happen in the world”.

I believe that for now, the Devil has power over the world. And he is the cause of all the mess in the world. All the crime,injustice,wickedness,sadness,corruption,bitterness,unlawfulness and everything else. If you watch the news these days all you see is bad,bad and more bad news. There’s hardly ever any good news. The Bible refers to the Devil as ‘The Prince of this world’. John 16:11 says: About judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world [Satan] is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him. Satan is the ruler, the evil genius and the prince of this world. This is also evident when he tempts Jesus by telling him he’ll give him all the kingdoms of the world. We know that Satan has already been judged and in the end of it all will face God’s wrath and judgement. But until then, what can we do as christians?

I love John 12. Jesus first talks about Satan being the prince of the world and being condemned by God, but not many verses later says we should have faith in the light, that we might be filled with the light.

John 12:31 says- Now the judgment (crisis) of this world is coming on [sentence is now being passed on this world]. Now the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world shall be cast out (expelled).

Then later on Jesus goes on to say in verses 35,36 and 46- 35So Jesus said to them, You will have the Light only a little while longer. Walk while you have the Light [keep on living by it], so that darkness may not overtake and overcome you. He who walks about in the dark does not know where he goes [he is drifting].

     36While you have the Light, believe in the Light [have faith in it, hold to it, rely on it], that you may become sons of the Light and be filled with Light. Jesus said these things, and then He went away and hid Himself from them [was lost to their view].

46I have come as a Light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me [whoever cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] may not continue to live in darkness.

In summary, Satan has brought so much darkness(all the bad things u hear and see everyday)¬†in the world. But Christians have the light(Jesus) living in them. We are in the world, but not of this world. Therefore, we should let the light of God fill us so much that it consumes every darkness not just in us, but in the world. We should become flooded with the light of God, so that it overflows and consumes the darkness in the world. I believe with all my heart that the problems that we have in my country, Nigeria, is not merely physical but is spiritual. There is a cloud of darkness over that country and no one’s doing anything about it because we’re waiting for someone else to do it for us. And i think pastors need to emphasise to their congregations that they have equal status¬†with members of their churches in God’s eyes.¬†¬†Christians need to start taking responsibility of issues in this world because God has appointed us by the blood of Jesus, priests unto Him, to rule over the earth. When the Bible says we are a royal priesthood it meant it!¬†The people we’re waiting for to make a change is us. We are the light of the world. We have the light. And nothing’s ever going to change if we don’t let our light shine and consume every darkness around us.

The problem i think is even though we have the light, Jesus, living in us, many christians still want to do what they want. We don’t want to live out what we are already- which is dead to sin, and brought from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.¬†Ephesians 2:2-3 describes what we used to be as unbelievers:

2In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God].

¬†¬†¬†¬† 3Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind.

Even though we are no longer following the prince of the power of the air(Satan) as christians, and we are following Christ, many christians still want to have the best of both worlds. This is why the darkness prevails all around us even when we are meant to be the light of the world. I’ll give the last verse before i¬†post the lyrics to ‘We Are’ by Kari Jobe. This last verse was actually my school’s slogan. Matthew 5:14 says: 14You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

What happened in Gethsemane

I’m supposed to have a post a day on this blog but recently i’ve been reading this book called ‘Jacob i have loved’ and it talks about the lessons we can learn from the story of Jacob and his significance in the Bible. I must confess it struck me for the first time so deeply after i saw this statement made by God: ‘Jacob i have loved and Esau i have hated. In the original hebrew, the way that phrase was¬†constructed shows that God loved Jacob with the exact same measure and passion with which he hated Esau. People hate to hear this, but i think it just goes back to the fact that God will love who he will love and hate who he will hate. He loves us not because of who we are or what we do but he loves us because he loves us. He has chosen the people that will come to salvation from the beginning and he has given them to Jesus. People don’t like to hear about Divine election because it seems unfair or unjust. But God is the potter and no man can question his ways. God is God and he does what he pleases. We may not be able to understand God’s ways with our finite minds but we should never question his actions. Although i don’t think the doctrine of ‘Divine Election’ is one that should be preached in churches too often(for many reasons), i do think its a¬†biblical truth that cannot be ignored.¬†That book has just shown me more and more how everything about God is infinite and without limits or boundaries. He is the almighty. But anyway, that’s what i’ve been getting up to recently but i’ll try and post more often from now on.

I want to write on the garden of gethsemane and the significance of what happened there. The story of Jesus being in the garden of gethsemane was recorded by all the 4 gospels. I will try and summarise this story leaving out no parts from any of the 4 gospels.

Jesus had just¬†eaten with his disciples at the passover and had also washed the feet of his disciples. Just before he went to the garden of gethsemane at the mount of olives, he was troubled at the table, and he said to them that one of them was going to betray him. They all asked him if they were the ones, and when Judas asked him, he told Judas that he would be the one that would betray him. Satan had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the heart of Judas.¬† After they had sang¬†a hymn, they went out to mount olives. Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away this night [that is, you will be caused to stumble and will begin to distrust and desert Me], for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.” Peter tried to persuade Jesus that even if anyone was to betray him he wouldn’t be the one but Jesus told him that he would betray him that same night and deny him 3 times. Meanwhile, Satan entered into Judas and took possession of him, then Jesus recognized this and told Judas to do what he needed to do swiftly. The other disciples were confused at what Jesus was telling Judas. All the other disciples also insisted that they would die with Jesus if he was going to die and go to prison with him if he was going to go to prison. Jesus then took, Peter, James and John with him to the garden of gethsemane. Whilst he was there, he prayed to God. John records quite a long prayer of Jesus to the Father, but the other gospels say Jesus asked God something between these lines: ‘Abba, [which means] Father, everything is possible for You. Take away this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You [will].‘ Just before he went praying somewhere in the garden about a stone’s throw from where Peter, James and John were, he told them to pray and keep watch. He told them his soul was deeply troubled and disturbed and overwhelmed with grief almost to the point it killed Him. He asked them to watch and pray so that they may not fall into temptation, because the spirit was willing to obey God and not sin, but the flesh was weak and prone to sin. When he was praying, he was so troubled and depressed. The Luke’s gospel says:

And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit. And being in an agony [of mind], He prayed [all the] more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.

Three times he prayed and checked up on the disciples to find them sleeping.The Luke’s gospel says they slept because of grief.¬†It appears that Jesus knew the exact time he was going to be betrayed because the Bible says he told the disciples they were going to pray just for one hour. Finally, the third time, Jesus woke up his disciples and said the hour had come for him to be betrayed into the hands of sinful men.

That’s the summary of what happened to Jesus in the garden of gethsemane. I’ll write another post on the significance of what happened to Him in the garden of gethsemane and what we can learn from it¬†in another post. Thanks for reading and God Bless!
