The pursuit of happiness, beauty, relevance…

My heart overflows with a noble theme

My mind wanders to a land far away from me yet so close to me

Only that i see the rest of humanity in this mysterious land

Its a land full of ponderings. A land full of wisdom. A land ancient, and famous for its mystery throughout the ages

There’s a vast world within. Not for the faint. Silence. Solitude.

Life’s a paradox; The only way up is down

The only way to live is to die.

Vanity upon vanity all is vanity. I’m searching for reality. I’m searching for happiness. I’m searching for beauty. I’m searching for relevance.

The voice of humanity echoes through my mind.

I once met a wise Teacher

He claimed to be the answer to the voices in my head.

The yelling of humanity.

He said, “the only way to live is to die. You’ll come alive when you learn to die”

He walked me through this mysterious land. He beckoned me to go with Him. He was taking me to my destiny.

I nearly said no, but then i saw then i saw the Fire in His Eyes.

There was something about those eyes. Desire.

I went with Him, still going with Him.

Oh the beauty of Transcendence! Happy Holiness, Joyful Righteousness.

Though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil.

The questions of the great philosophers answered!

Now i must embrace my pilgrimage to the eternal city.

I’m an ambassador, inviting all to the wedding.

For in that day, the first shall be the last, the last shall be the first. Kings and paupers. Queens and maids. The rich and the powerful and the forgotten of the earth.

The great Equaliser.

Therefore you kings, be wise. Be warned you rulers of the earth,

The Lord will march out like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up His zeal, with a shout He will raise up the battle cry and will triumph over His enemies.

(P.S  I have no idea exactly what that was haha but i was having a good time writing that :). I have also referenced 2 Bible verses in the end- Psalm 2:8 and Isaiah 42:13)

My Recent Belief in Prophecy

A lot has been going on in the world today and it shouldn’t take long for us to realise that we are truly in the last days. This has led me to look into various changes i have observed in the body of Christ, as well as question some of my previous beliefs in certain doctrines and ideas. Being from Nigeria, i have listened to weekly news updates so far on the various attacks by the islamic sect, boko haram, that has led to the deaths of many innocent people in the country. Also, being a citizen of a nation with a major part of the various systems and institutions rooted in corruption; from the government to business organizations, and sometimes even churches, this has made me wonder what our fate is in the world today.

I don’t expect every christian to agree with me on this, but i do believe in the apostolic-prophetic reformation that is taking place in the church today. And i believe it is part of God’s plan to prepare the church for the perilous times that have been prophesied to take place in the Bible. We must remember that we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken. When everything else shakes in the earth and when it seems like all hope is gone for all, we must make sure our hope, faith and love is unshaken(See Hebrews 12:27-29). For a long time in the church the local assemblies of christians have been led by Pastors. Pastors have been made to function in all the offices of the 5-fold ministry described by Paul in Ephesians 4:11- He gave some to be Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church).

It goes on to say in verse 13 that he gave these to the body for her to grow into the full stature of Christ- without spot, wrinkle or blemish. I do not believe that the church is fully developed yet, hence i believe the apostolic and prophetic offices should still be in operation.

However, i recognise that many false prophets will also rise up in the last days that will mislead many and will do signs and wonders. We must realise that if there will be false prophets that indicates there must also be true prophets. Without apology i know of a man in Nigeria who is a false prophet. You may ask me how you know the difference between false and true. I believe the simple difference between a false prophet and a true prophet is the fact that false prophets do not have good hearts. I do not believe that the fact that someone gifted in prophecy gives a wrong prophecy makes them false. I think most people gifted in prophecy are susceptible to giving a wrong word due to many issues such as an incorrect interpretation of a revelation(such as in dreams or visions etc) but i believe as you get more intimate in your fellowship with the Holy Spirit you start to understand what God is saying more clearly.

In addition to what i said about having a bad heart, the entire chapter of 1 John 4 makes it clearer what that might mean. For example i could tell why the man in Nigeria was a false prophet because he had claimed to being a christian since he was in his mother’s womb. He has no history of ever being in the world according to him. This is already in opposition to the scripture that says unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. I believe any prophetic ministry that does not stem out of a genuine love for God and his people has a tendency to be false. It is easy to get into pride as well as self-promotion with such a gift and once this happens you must re-evaluate yourself to test the spirit from which you are operating. We must always remember that God has given us a Spirit of Love(2 Timothy 1:8). I believe anyone with the gift of prophecy is susceptible to becoming a false prophet and hence we must always check our motives. For example, i am reluctant to people who always love using the official title ‘prophet’ a lot. This is very common in Nigeria as you have churches every 5 kilometers on the streets with many presuming to be prophets. Firstly, i believe that you might be gifted prophetically and have dreams and visions, angelic visitations and even get words of knowledge yet not be called to be in the office of a prophet. Paul said in the Bible that he wished that all may prophesy. ‘Desire earnestly spiritual gifts especially that you may prophesy’- 1 Corinthians 14:1b. Hence, i believe it is the will of God for all his people to prophesy. However, i believe the office of a prophet described in Ephesians 4:11 is only for those called to equip the saints for work of service. I believe that leaders in churches must always be called to that office and should not presume to be called because of giftings they have noticed in their lives. Secondly, i’ve noticed that most true prophets hardly ever call themselves by the title, except they are called by that title by another. I believe this shows humility. I don’t think that all that may call themselves by that title are false. Like i said earlier, its all to do with the heart. God is a God of hearts.

I also believe that when we test the spirits and test prophetic words given we must also be very careful to not be ‘faultfinders’ instead of true lovers of God and his people. Very often you have people who habitually test from a foundation of suspicion. This should not be so. We must test from a heart of love for God and his people. And even when we realise that something might be fishy somewhere, we must take out time to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom in how exactly to react to what He has shown us. We must readily watch over our hearts because out of it flows the springs of life. You don’t want your springs to be polluted.

Finally,i believe that all prophecy must always reveal Jesus and lead us back into his arms. (I’m sure i must have left out a few points by the way).

“…For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”(Revelation 19:10).

A Revival of The Youth

Unfortunately, due to several reasons, including preparations for my upcoming exams i haven’t been able to post any articles recently.

However, i just stumbled on a website i found very interesting called Y! Naija and its a website that focuses on the voice of the youth in Nigeria. It addresses the national political issues of Nigeria and attempts to motivate young people who wish to see a change, to be informed on everything that goes on in the country. All the writers of the articles in this website are young people. You can check this website at

I saw many interesting comments and thoughts on this website i would love to make some comments on. Firstly, just like most members of the Nigerian youth community, my greatest desire is to see a change in Nigeria. It would be crucial to state from the start that i believe very strongly that the problems faced by Nigeria, have nothing to do with the wicked and corrupt government in Nigeria or the Nigerians that sit around always wishing something happens, but have their totality and roots founded upon the activities in the spiritual realm. Although those factors influence what’s happening, i believe we need to get to the root of the problem. Nigeria is not different from other countries in the world also facing various problems so there’s nothing surprising to me about Her present predicaments. The basis of my belief is from scripture that clearly says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities and powers, and rulers of the darkness OF THIS WORLD.

In case you didn’t know, Satan is described in the Bible as the prince of the power of the air. He controls majority of the people that are in power, and the systems of this world . However, we have read the end of the book so we know what his end is going to be like.

Why does the world always seem to think they have figured out everything when they have kicked God out of it? Why does it take so long to realise that once God is not in it, then nothing’s in it? These questions seem to puzzle me all the time.

I saw quite an amusing poll on Y! Naija. It was a poll on which nigerian is changing the image of nigeria for the best and the options were:

Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala

 Goodluck Jonathan

As soon as i saw this, it didn’t take me ages to vote for ‘None’. Surprisingly, some people voted for an afrobeats singer that has done nothing but sit down in a studio to write very nonsensical lyrics like, ‘Its your boy wizzy’. I’m not against his music, but i wouldn’t understand why anyone would consider him to be someone who has changed the image of Nigeria for the best. If anything, he has changed the image of nigeria for the worst in my opinion. There is not an element of logical thought used in the construction of the lyrics, neither does it encourage the nigerian youth to do something worthwhile with their lives. Little wonder every tom, dick and harry wants to get involved in music in Nigeria these days. Sigh.

After looking through many articles for sometime i finally saw one that i could agree with with its headline, ‘Abacha supported ‘Nigeria Prays’-Gowon’.

Finally, God was being brought into something. This article was about how a former Nigerian military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon gathered with some nigerians in diaspora to discuss the possible solution for Nigeria’s countless problems. After the meeting, they concluded that they would form an organisation called, ‘Nigeria Prays’, where intercessors would be gathered from all over the country to pray to God concerning its issues and seek His face. I think this is good and an essential starting point. I’m happy about this, and from time to time i always keep Nigeria in my prayers.

I’m very encouraged to see the nigerian youth are concerned about what is going on in that country. This is what we need. We need more active people and less passive people. We need people to start doing something and stop wishing something changed. I believe with all my heart that God wants to start a revival amongst the youth in Nigeria; this is just the start of it. I believe there is going to be a spiritual awakening that the forces of darkness will not be able to prevail against, because the Spirit of God will be working with and in the youth.

Personally, i am forever dedicated to working with God, to bringing a change in Nigeria. Whatever he asks me to do, i will do. And i don’t have to be scared about anything like an assasination because if God sends me He will keep me from the evil one until the job He wants to be done is done. I believe in the royal priesthood(Revelation 5:10) of all true christians, and i believe in the immesurable, unlimited, and surpassing greatness of the power of God in and for those who believe in Him(Ephesians 1:19). My prayer to God in these times is: Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger and disfavor and spread it out to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation.(Psalm 85:5-8)

I’ll conclude with one of my favorite Bible chapters where Jesus prays to the Father, just close to the time He was going to be taken to be crucified.

John 17:15-18-     15 I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.

16 They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.

18 Just as You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

Force Out The Darkness

Once again, i read Luke 4 talking about how the Devil tempted Jesus. Jesus’s second temptation spoke to me in a different way as i read it today.

Luke 4:5-8 says: 5Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time [in the twinkling of an eye].

6And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.

7Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me [just once], it shall all be Yours.

8And Jesus replied to him, Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.

After i read it i started to think about how Satan offered to give Jesus the ‘world’. I think if we don’t study this properly then we can get confused thinking that Satan owns the world now, and he doesn’t. God owns the earth he created it.The Bible says the Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. So what is Satan referring to when he talks about giving Jesus the kingdoms of the world and giving Jesus all the power, authority, and glory of the world?

Satan then goes on to say that of the glory and power and authority has been turned over to him.

To understand this i’ll show you some verses that describe Satan as the ‘god of the world’.

2 Corinthians 4:4 says : 4For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.

John 14:30 also says: 30I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]

So the Bible describes the devil as the god of this world and the prince(evil genius and ruler) of this world.

Ephesians 2:2 describes how majority of the people in the world have been blinded by the devil and are following the prince of the power of the air. Christians of course are followers of Christ not of the Devil. So when the Bible talks about Satan being the prince of this world or owning the kingdoms of the world it means he has a major influence on the people who are in power, and people all over the world. Look at everything in the world: Poverty, war, corruption, lust, greed, injustice etc. It doesn’t take you so long to realise that the world is encompassed in darkness brought by the power of the devil. Look at the media, education systems, political systems, commercial systems and everything.

Now, on the contrary what are Christians? Christians are meant to be the light of the world and salt of the earth. However many christians have refused to turn their switches on. And instead of infecting and piercing the darkness in the world with our light, we have become so passive that we sit around and watch everything go horribly wrong. Christians are carriers of the presence of God.

Revelation 5:10 says: 10And You have made them a kingdom (royal race) and priests to our God, and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth!

How many christians can honestly say they are making a difference and shining their lights in their workplaces and businesses? The Bible says God has made us a royal race and priests to Him. And we are meant to reign as kings over the earth!

So why sit around looking for someone else to do something for you?

I find it quite strange that some christians in Nigeria say christians should not be involved in politics because politics in Nigeria is full of corruption. That’s even the main reason why christians should be involved. Who is going to change anything if all the christians just keep everything in the church and watch the Devil take over all the systems in the world and cover it with darkness? Christianity is definitely not about going to church every sunday to listen to your pastor then go out in the world the rest of the week and not make an effort on purpose to bring light into the world.

If you want a change in your country or the corrupt systems in the world, then move outside the church and start piercing the darkness. Force out the darkness! Force out the darkness in the media! Force out the darkness in your country’s government! Force out the darkness in your school! Force out the darkness in your occupation! Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Thoughts on Science and Religion

I was just watching a video by Louie Giglio titled ‘Indescribable’ and you can check it for yourself on youtube i think. To be honest as a child i had doubts about what i believed in(even though i’ve had countless encounters with a divine power in my life). Most times, it was questions that kept ringing in my head like ‘Who created God’, ‘Why are we even living here’ and i never had answers to most of those questions. I’ve only come to realise more recently that if we say there is a God, then we have to recognise He is God, and because he is God, we should never expect ourselves to understand everything about Him.God is God and no one can create God because he is God.

I feel so stupid remembering the times i ever doubted the existence of God after watching the video by Louie Giglio. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions and all that but i think we should re-evaluate our beliefs because there are many consequences if we’re not sure about what we believe in. I know atheists find it hard to understand that anyone would believe in God just as much as people who believe in God find it hard to understand how anyone would not believe in God. I’m not trying to convince anyone that God exists or anything because to be honest, i’m beyond that stage of getting involved in irrelevant religious arguments where everything ends up just the way they started. No one usually gets convinced or anything. But at the end of the day, the Bible says God has placed eternity in the heart of everyone so no matter how you claim God doesn’t exist, deep deep down you know that there is something greater than you are. And that’s why people get involved in all sorts of religious arguments and question why we are here. Because there is something stirring up deep down in them.

But i just want you to think about it. And i’m talking about this based on my beliefs. Look up in the sky, or look at pictures of the earth and other planets. The earth and all the other planets are in the subsection of the milky way. The milky way is a section of the universe. There is no telescope yet that has been developed to view the entire universe because everytime they build one, they find something else somewhere else. So right now we don’t even know how big the universe is. I’m not totally against science in everything. Like louie giglio pointed out in his video when God created the universe there probably was a big bang somewhere. It probably wasn’t just something silent and there were probably things crashing against each other by the spoken word of His mouth. How small are we, human beings, compared to the entire universe? And all of that came in by coincidence?

Think about the human body, and the bodies and systems of all animals. And the millions of creatures that exist on planet earth. Think about the vast oceans and seas and how many stars you can count in the sky when you look up at night. Think about the systems on earth. The laws of gravity and the laws that govern the way things happen on earth. Think about how perfect they all are. Think about how the sun is there just when we need it, and the moon comes out just when it needs to. Is this really all a coincidence?

I can’t even fully describe how complicated and how perfect everything in the universe is. If you haven’t watched that video then go on youtube and search for ‘Indescribable’ by Louie Giglio! We call things creatures but at the same time we want to think that it wasn’t created and it all came from nothing.

Let’s move beyond talking about the universe. Just imagine you were on top of the whole world and you could see all that was going on in the world and you could see what kind of things people were thinking in their minds. What would you see? You would see people in so much sorrow and pain. You would see people suffering and people plotting to do not so nice things to their friends. You would see how truly fragile man is and the need of man for a higher being than they are. You would see bitterness, corruption, crime, sickness, death, unhappiness, misery. And does this not somehow show how man is in need of help from somewhere? Why is there so much war and conflict and why is it so hard to think the best about the person next to you? Why do we all have hearts full of nothing more than pride and deception? Why do people live? Why do we spend all our lives chasing shadows like wealth and power only for us to die and leave it all behind?

Think about things that can’t be quantified like emotions, feelings and thoughts. How many processes go on before we think a thought? Why do we feel the way we feel? I think all of these things point out to the weakness in us.

The truth is i can’t even describe, how the world and the universe and everything in it is complex. It is indescribable. Beyond mere words and comprehension. It is not something you can think through and get. It is not something you can understand with your finite mind. God is infinite. He is beyond boundaries. At the beginning and end of time He is. He was and He is and He is to come.

I’ve concluded i’m never going to think through any of this because the truth is it is not as complex as human beings make it to be. No man was there when the supposedly ‘big bang’ happened. Why do we want to always think through things that we would never comprehend. Till now, no one has completed all the researches or experiments to understand why we are here or who we are or what happened at the start. There will always be a missing part of the puzzle. It is not that complex though. After people realise that all their experiments and ideas are in vain, and that God is beyond their thinking or comprehension, then it becomes easy to understand that God created it all. I don’t know exactly how but He did. He spoke the light out of His mouth into the face of the deep and the light travelled at 3 X 10^8 metres per second. He created all the stars not just in the milky way but all the stars beyond the span of what man can see in the universe now.

I’ll end with what God says in Job 38:4-14: 4Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Declare to Me, if you have and know understanding.

5Who determined the measures of the earth, if you know? Or who stretched the measuring line upon it?

6Upon what were the foundations of it fastened, or who laid its cornerstone,

7When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8Or who shut up the sea with doors when it broke forth and issued out of the womb?–

9When I made the clouds the garment of it, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it,

10And marked for it My appointed boundary and set bars and doors,

11And said, Thus far shall you come and no farther; and here shall your proud waves be stayed?

12Have you commanded the morning since your days began and caused the dawn to know its place,

13So that [light] may get hold of the corners of the earth and shake the wickedness [of night] out of it?

14It is changed like clay into which a seal is pressed; and things stand out like a many-colored garment.

We Are…By Kari Jobe- Let There Be Light

I was just listening to a song by Kari Jobe and once again it struck me how it is imperative that every christian recognizes the importance of shining our light in the world. Many people may ask, “why is there so much injustice and crime in the world” or “if God is good why does he let so much crap happen in the world”.

I believe that for now, the Devil has power over the world. And he is the cause of all the mess in the world. All the crime, injustice, wickedness, sadness, corruption, bitterness, unlawfulness and everything else. If you watch the news these days all you see is bad,bad and more bad news. There’s hardly ever any good news. The Bible refers to the Devil as ‘The Prince of this world’. John 16:11 says: About judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world [Satan] is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him. Satan is the ruler, the evil genius and the prince of this world. This is also evident when he tempts Jesus by telling him he’ll give him all the kingdoms of the world. We know that Satan has already been judged and in the end of it all will face God’s wrath and judgement. But until then, what can we do as christians?

I love John 12. Jesus first talks about Satan being the prince of the world and being condemned by God, but not many verses later says we should have faith in the light, that we might be filled with the light.

John 12:31 says- Now the judgment (crisis) of this world is coming on [sentence is now being passed on this world]. Now the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world shall be cast out (expelled).

Then later on Jesus goes on to say in verses 35,36 and 46- 35So Jesus said to them, You will have the Light only a little while longer. Walk while you have the Light [keep on living by it], so that darkness may not overtake and overcome you. He who walks about in the dark does not know where he goes [he is drifting].

36While you have the Light, believe in the Light [have faith in it, hold to it, rely on it], that you may become sons of the Light and be filled with Light. Jesus said these things, and then He went away and hid Himself from them [was lost to their view].

46I have come as a Light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me [whoever cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] may not continue to live in darkness.

In summary, Satan has brought so much darkness(all the bad things u hear and see everyday) in the world. But Christians have the light(Jesus) living in them. We are in the world, but not of this world. Therefore, we should let the light of God fill us so much that it consumes every darkness not just in us, but in the world. We should become flooded with the light of God, so that it overflows and consumes the darkness in the world. I believe with all my heart that the problems that we have in my country, Nigeria, is not merely physical but is spiritual. There is a cloud of darkness over that country and no one’s doing anything about it because we’re waiting for someone else to do it for us. And i think pastors need to emphasise to their congregations that they have equal status with members of their churches in God’s eyes.  Christians need to start taking responsibility of issues in this world because God has appointed us by the blood of Jesus, priests unto Him, to rule over the earth. When the Bible says we are a royal priesthood it meant it! The people we’re waiting for to make a change is us. We are the light of the world. We have the light. And nothing’s ever going to change if we don’t let our light shine and consume every darkness around us.

The problem i think is even though we have the light, Jesus, living in us, many christians still want to do what they want. We don’t want to live out what we are already- which is dead to sin, and brought from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. Ephesians 2:2-3 describes what we used to be as unbelievers:

2In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God].

3Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind.

Even though we are no longer following the prince of the power of the air(Satan) as christians, and we are following Christ, many christians still want to have the best of both worlds. This is why the darkness prevails all around us even when we are meant to be the light of the world. I’ll give the last verse before i post the lyrics to ‘We Are’ by Kari Jobe. This last verse was actually my school’s slogan. Matthew 5:14 says: 14You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

The lyrics to Kari Jobe’s song “We Are” are below(btw u could watch the video on youtube):

Every secret, every shame

Every fear, every pain

Live inside the dark

But that’s not who we are

We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper, lift your head

We were meant for more than this

Fight the shadows conquer death

Make the most of the time we have left

Chorus: We are the light of the world

We are the city on a hill

We are the light of the world

We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

Let the light shine, let the light shine

Verse 2: We are called to the spread the news

Tell the world the simple truth

Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in His Name

So let His love break through

Bridge: We are the light (3X)

So let your light shine brighter

We are the light (3X)

Jesus You are the light, You are the light, You are the light

We will lift You higher Shine, Shine, Shine

What happened in Gethsemane

I’m supposed to have a post a day on this blog but recently i’ve been reading this book called ‘Jacob i have loved’ and it talks about the lessons we can learn from the story of Jacob and his significance in the Bible. I must confess it struck me for the first time so deeply after i saw this statement made by God: ‘Jacob i have loved and Esau i have hated. In the original hebrew, the way that phrase was constructed shows that God loved Jacob with the exact same measure and passion with which he hated Esau. People hate to hear this, but i think it just goes back to the fact that God will love who he will love and hate who he will hate. He loves us not because of who we are or what we do but he loves us because he loves us. He has chosen the people that will come to salvation from the beginning and he has given them to Jesus. People don’t like to hear about Divine election because it seems unfair or unjust. But God is the potter and no man can question his ways. God is God and he does what he pleases. We may not be able to understand God’s ways with our finite minds but we should never question his actions. Although i don’t think the doctrine of ‘Divine Election’ is one that should be preached in churches too often(for many reasons), i do think its a biblical truth that cannot be ignored. That book has just shown me more and more how everything about God is infinite and without limits or boundaries. He is the almighty. But anyway, that’s what i’ve been getting up to recently but i’ll try and post more often from now on.

I want to write on the garden of gethsemane and the significance of what happened there. The story of Jesus being in the garden of gethsemane was recorded by all the 4 gospels. I will try and summarise this story leaving out no parts from any of the 4 gospels.

Jesus had just eaten with his disciples at the passover and had also washed the feet of his disciples. Just before he went to the garden of gethsemane at the mount of olives, he was troubled at the table, and he said to them that one of them was going to betray him. They all asked him if they were the ones, and when Judas asked him, he told Judas that he would be the one that would betray him. Satan had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the heart of Judas.  After they had sang a hymn, they went out to mount olives. Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away this night [that is, you will be caused to stumble and will begin to distrust and desert Me], for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.” Peter tried to persuade Jesus that even if anyone was to betray him he wouldn’t be the one but Jesus told him that he would betray him that same night and deny him 3 times. Meanwhile, Satan entered into Judas and took possession of him, then Jesus recognized this and told Judas to do what he needed to do swiftly. The other disciples were confused at what Jesus was telling Judas. All the other disciples also insisted that they would die with Jesus if he was going to die and go to prison with him if he was going to go to prison. Jesus then took, Peter, James and John with him to the garden of gethsemane. Whilst he was there, he prayed to God. John records quite a long prayer of Jesus to the Father, but the other gospels say Jesus asked God something between these lines: ‘Abba, [which means] Father, everything is possible for You. Take away this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You [will].‘ Just before he went praying somewhere in the garden about a stone’s throw from where Peter, James and John were, he told them to pray and keep watch. He told them his soul was deeply troubled and disturbed and overwhelmed with grief almost to the point it killed Him. He asked them to watch and pray so that they may not fall into temptation, because the spirit was willing to obey God and not sin, but the flesh was weak and prone to sin. When he was praying, he was so troubled and depressed. The Luke’s gospel says:

And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit. And being in an agony [of mind], He prayed [all the] more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.

Three times he prayed and checked up on the disciples to find them sleeping. The Luke’s gospel says they slept because of grief. It appears that Jesus knew the exact time he was going to be betrayed because the Bible says he told the disciples they were going to pray just for one hour. Finally, the third time, Jesus woke up his disciples and said the hour had come for him to be betrayed into the hands of sinful men.

That’s the summary of what happened to Jesus in the garden of gethsemane. I’ll write another post on the significance of what happened to Him in the garden of gethsemane and what we can learn from it in another post. Thanks for reading and God Bless!
