True Spiritual Warfare 2

Ephesians 6:11-18(AMP):

Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with thefirm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).

Think of yourself as a soldier. A soldier of Christ making you hated by all the forces of darkness as there is nothing in common between light and darkness. Little wonder why christians have the most problems in the world. The fruits of the spirit are joy, peace, patience, love, kindness, goodness(benevolence), gentleness, self control, faithfulness(keeping commitments and living by your word).

But many christians in the world hardly ever have any of these fruits in their lives because they have let the Devil use their problems to steal them(the fruits) away from them. A very profound Joyce Meyer quote is ‘Your problem is really not your problem but your problem is your attitude to your problem’. The reason why you got angry the last time u did was not because of what that person did. The reason why you got angry was because the Devil got you thinking so much about what that person did, and probably whispered something like ‘why should u let this person get away with what they did’. And its with things like that we open doors in our lives for the devil even when sometimes we pray for them to be closed. We have to be sensitive to be aware of the strategies and deceits of the Devil.

When the Bible talks about spiritual warfare it refers to facing the devil on the evil day of danger. So the battle is for the ‘evil day’. However we must always learn to put on our spiritual armors always because the Devil comes when we least expect it.

Wear your belt of truth. When the devil tries to deceive you into thinking someone does not deserve your forgiveness tighten your belt of truth and remember that Jesus said we need to forgive people. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong. It doesn’t even matter if they recognise that they have offended you. You have to forgive them. Unforgiveness opens wide doors for the devil into our lives.

Lift up your shield of faith. Faith is believing that you’re whatever the Bible says you are and you have whatever the Bible says you have. I like how the Bible says lift up. A shield is useless if you don’t lift it against any missiles. So i believe the way we can lift up our shield of faith is confess the truth of the word of God out loud when the Devil sends his missiles. Like Jesus did when the Devil tempted it saying ‘It is written’ is speaking out the truth boldly.This is also how we use the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. And the more we say what we believe the more we believe it. You cannot receive anything God gives us through Jesus except by Faith. Even our salvation is by grace through faith. Without faith in the grace God gives us to be saved we can’t be saved.

The helmet of salvation. I like how salvation is a helmet in our spiritual armor because it reminds me of what goes on in our heads. That’s where we think things. Your thought life is important for spiritual warfare. Think positively! Expect the best thing to happen! Expect your salvation to come!

Learning from Jesus, obviously the Devil hated Him more than anyone else. But did Jesus go around screaming at the devil? Did he have that much problem with the Devil? This just tells me that Jesus was always so fully prepared that the devil didn’t even bother Him. I believe Jesus put on love everyday too. Jesus is Love Himself. When we put on Love the devil doesn’t even know what to do with us.  Jesus recognised his enemy was the devil and not Peter or anyone around Him. And that was why he was sensitive enough to realise when Peter rebuked Him, trying to stop him from going to the cross, it was the Devil and so immediately rebuked the Devil and went along with what he was doing. Many christians today do a lot of ‘thinking’. They don’t just walk out of situations like that. They think its the person that they’re talking to that’s the enemy when the Bible clearly says our friends or family members are not the true enemies. Our enemy is the Devil. And when we get into those situations of someone saying something nasty you have to realise the devil is trying to steal your joy and peace through them. When someone offends you so badly and you think you can’t forgive them because ‘they win and you lose’ then remember that the devil is deceiving you through what happened. We have to learn to put on love above all else. Be patient with people and kind. Don’t compare yourself with others because that would lead to jealousy and envy and love does not envy. Love does not boast about what they have except boasting in Christ Jesus. Love is not being rude to people. Love is ready to give allowance for someone else to have their way.. It is not always selfish and self-seeking. It does not rejoice at injustice being done to someone. It pays no attention to what someone’s done to you- It keeps no record of wrongs. It is not touchy, it believes the best of your friend, it is not proud. When you love, you terrify the devil and bring all his schemes to an end. Prayer is important, but without the full complete armor of God, there is something missing.

Colossians 3:13-15(AMP)- 13Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must you also [forgive].

     14And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony].

     15And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
