Force Out The Darkness

Once again, i read Luke 4 talking about how the Devil tempted Jesus. Jesus’s second temptation spoke to me in a different way as i read it today.

Luke 4:5-8 says: 5Then the devil took Him up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time [in the twinkling of an eye].

6And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.

7Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me [just once], it shall all be Yours.

8And Jesus replied to him, Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.

After i read it i started to think about how Satan offered to give Jesus the ‘world’. I think if we don’t study this properly then we can get confused thinking that Satan owns the world now, and he doesn’t. God owns the earth he created it.The Bible says the Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. So what is Satan referring to when he talks about giving Jesus the kingdoms of the world and giving Jesus all the power, authority, and glory of the world?

Satan then goes on to say that of the glory and power and authority has been turned over to him.

To understand this i’ll show you some verses that describe Satan as the ‘god of the world’.

2 Corinthians 4:4 says : 4For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.

John 14:30 also says: 30I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]

So the Bible describes the devil as the god of this world and the prince(evil genius and ruler) of this world.

Ephesians 2:2 describes how majority of the people in the world have been blinded by the devil and are following the prince of the power of the air. Christians of course are followers of Christ not of the Devil. So when the Bible talks about Satan being the prince of this world or owning the kingdoms of the world it means he has a major influence on the people who are in power, and people all over the world. Look at everything in the world: Poverty, war, corruption, lust, greed, injustice etc. It doesn’t take you so long to realise that the world is encompassed in darkness brought by the power of the devil. Look at the media, education systems, political systems, commercial systems and everything.

Now, on the contrary what are Christians? Christians are meant to be the light of the world and salt of the earth. However many christians have refused to turn their switches on. And instead of infecting and piercing the darkness in the world with our light, we have become so passive that we sit around and watch everything go horribly wrong. Christians are carriers of the presence of God.

Revelation 5:10 says: 10And You have made them a kingdom (royal race) and priests to our God, and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth!

How many christians can honestly say they are making a difference and shining their lights in their workplaces and businesses? The Bible says God has made us a royal race and priests to Him. And we are meant to reign as kings over the earth!

So why sit around looking for someone else to do something for you?

I find it quite strange that some christians in Nigeria say christians should not be involved in politics because politics in Nigeria is full of corruption. That’s even the main reason why christians should be involved. Who is going to change anything if all the christians just keep everything in the church and watch the Devil take over all the systems in the world and cover it with darkness? Christianity is definitely not about going to church every sunday to listen to your pastor then go out in the world the rest of the week and not make an effort on purpose to bring light into the world.

If you want a change in your country or the corrupt systems in the world, then move outside the church and start piercing the darkness. Force out the darkness! Force out the darkness in the media! Force out the darkness in your country’s government! Force out the darkness in your school! Force out the darkness in your occupation! Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
